Monique Harrisberg

Established twenty years ago, the Voice Clinic quickly became an internationally-renowned leader in the communications skills training industry, and today remains a global, multi-million dollar business.

Created by speech and drama teacher Monique Harrisberg, the Voice Clinic trains business people in communication skills, helping clients to develop a rich, resonant voice with correct tone and pace. It is not only business people who are benefiting from the Voice Clinic; anything which requires speech can be improved through voice training, from the art of flirting to giving a wedding speech.

Individual and corporate training is offered to assist clients to improve communication of their ideas with greater confidence.

1.     What was your first job?
Teaching teachers how to use drama as an educational tool in the classroom. I lectured at a teacher's training college assisting the teachers in developing these skills.

2.      What did you want to be when you grew up?
An actress

3.      What does your job involve now?
Training business people and assisting them in developing their voice, presentation and public speaking skills. It involves developing confidence, self belief and teaching them how to sell themselves in the corporate world.

4.      Are you thinking of trying your hand in anything else
No, I love my work.

5.      What is the biggest challenge you face at work?
Getting corporate clients to understand the importance of voice as an effective tool in professional communication. The voice counts for 38% of every communication message and our challenge is to get HR and training managers to understand the relevance of the voice.

6.      What is the best part of your job?
Seeing a client's development as they grow in confidence and ability.

7.      What is your advice for people starting out in your industry?

This industry is about helping and developing people and that needs to be one's agenda - not a money making exercise. You need a genuine commitment to each individual. Also, make sure you get the correct training and qualifications. Experience is not enough to allow you to be qualified to train people in this area.

8.      What makes you happy?
A job well done!
