A regional municipality located west of Melbourne are actively recruiting for a principal strategic planner due to the recent sign off from senior management. This is a newly created position and will be positioned within its Strategic and Sustainable Development department on a permanent basis. This Band 7 Strategic Planner role will complement council's current team and assist in delivering a variety of municipal land use projects. Reporting directly to the Manager Strategic and Sustainable Development, your responsibility will be to take a lead role in project managing the delivery of an extensive portfolio of strategic land use projects whilst achieving efficient and sustainable development outcomes for the municipality. You will develop, implement and also revolutionise council's planning scheme to support growth within the area with a strong emphasis on protecting council's environmental assets. You can expect to work on projects relating to strategic land use planning, social planning, heritage planning, structure plans, transportation and economic assessments, just to name a few. Therefore, your local knowledge and experience will be fully utilised and developed whilst attending to these issues/projects. The successful candidate will have: - A tertiary qualification in Town Planning and/or circa 6 to 8 years' experience working in a similar role ideally within Victorian Local Government.
- Extensive knowledge and proven success in project managing and coordinating the development of council projects dealing with strategic land use and social planning issues.
- The ability to manage several projects which include multi-disciplinary teams, at one time whilst delivering a highly level of customer service.
- The confidence in representing council at various forums as directed.
- The capability to work independently and within a small specialist team.
- A track record in using current planning software including GIS applications, MapInfo and Microsoft tools.
